Zack’s school lunches are always packed full of surprises. Usually—gulp—not good surprises.

On Monday, his mom’s brain-boosting lunch makes his face turn green. On Tuesday, his dad’s body-boosting lunch gets him into trouble. On Wednesday, his grandmother’s selection is extravagant—and noisy. On Thursday, his big sister’s offering is just what she thinks her baby brother deserves. And on Friday, his meal is fit for a boy’s best friend.

Sometimes shocking, often cringe-worthy, and always hilarious, Zack’s school lunches are the talk of the classroom. To save his reputation, Zack will have to take lunch matters into his own hands.
Dorothy Griffiths is a long-time creative collaborator with her daughters Jennifer and Victoria Griffiths. Their children’s picture book We Make Bears was shortlisted for the Writers’ Union of Canada Writing for Children Competition in 2007.

Dorothy is a psychologist and happy grandmother. Jennifer and Victoria are both elementary school teachers and BFF sisters. A boy in one of Jennifer’s classes inspired the idea for School Lunch when he bemoaned the contents of his lunch kit: one mighty steak.

All three writers live in Alberta with their loved ones. When they aren’t laughing or singing, they manage to get some writing done.
